Pat Gallagher is another "Hero of our Time." Although, unlike a Lermontov hero, he seeks out storms and attempts to calm them. I’ve known Pat for almost 30 years and the one thing that has always struck me is his unfailing optimism in the human spirit. I think that’s what comes through in his paintings. Every character is on its own journey. Secret lives being observed, taken in and hoped for.

I recently got back in touch with Pat after a long hiatus and feel the joy of having found what was lost. An honest (except when he aims to provoke!) friend who’s unflinching realism never descends in to pessimism or Schadenfreude.
