Patrick Gallagher was born in Bryn Mawr,
a small town outside Philadelphia. The
son of Irish immigrants, Pat spent most
summers on the family farm in Donegal,
Ireland. He credits those summers in
Ireland with instilling the sense of
honesty, humor, and skepticism seen in
his work. The other major influence in
Pat’s life is the fact he started
working for his father at the age of 10.
Growing up Pat was a handful for his
hardworking parents and teachers. He was
constantly talking, exploring, and
asking the question “why?” His parents
say, “the only time Pat sat quietly was
when he was drawing some crazy
pictures.”
Pat spent many of his formative years
hanging out with the women from Bryn
Mawr College. He looks on those days and
nights with great fondness and considers
that time to be one of the greatest
influences in his life.
When Pat met his wife, Trisha, life
changed. She was the first person to say
that his drawings are worth holding on
to. For Christmas in 1995, Trisha gave
Pat his first sketch book. She made him
promise that he would stop throwing away
all of his work. He has stuck to that
promise.
Pat lives by one main motto, “We are all
going to die someday so we might as well
laugh and enjoy ourselves!”
